Dramatica Pro 4.0 Demo Instructions for Windows

Please read these instructions before downloading. You may want to print them and then follow along as you go through them step by step.

If you do not know how to choose directories, run files, or any other of the Windows functions in the steps below, please refer to your Windows help.

Special Note for Windows 98 users: When we wrote the instructions for opening the example files in the Dramatica Pro Demo we did not take into account that Windows 98 opens the "My Documents" Folder by default.

To open the example files, go to your File menu and click Open. In the "Look in" field, navigate to your hard drive where Dramatica is installed (usually C:). On your hard drive, double-click on your Program Files folder and then double-click on your Dramatica Demo folder. You will now see the Examples folder. Open the Examples folder and click once on the example file you would like to open (e.g. "A Clockwork Orange"). Click Open. The example file that you chose will now be open.

Downloading the file

1. Click here to download the file.
2. A window will appear asking you where you want to put the file on your machine. This can be any directory, as long as you know where it is. Select the directory you want and click Save.

Installing the Demo

After it finishes downloading, you need to run the installer, which is called dpro40demo.exe. You can do this by finding it on your hard drive and double-clicking on it (this is easiest!) or type in the path and file name under Run as described below:

1. Click on Start.
2. Click on Run.
3. Type in (or Browse to) the path and file name where you downloaded the updater: e.g. c:\your_directory\dpro40demo.exe and hit ENTER.
   Either way you choose to run it, the installer will automatically launch. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Dramatica Pro demo.

The default location the Dramatica Pro demo will install to is on your C: drive (c:\program files\screenplay systems\dramatica pro demo).

When it is done installing, you're ready to run! Go into the Start menu, then into Programs, and click on the Dramatica Pro Demo icon to start!

Note: The Dramatica Pro 4.0 Demo will not work on 68K Macintosh computers. In general, if your Macintosh computer has a model number with three digits or less (e.g. Performa 630) it is a 68K machine.

Downloading the file

Depending on your browser configuration, one of two things may happen.

1. It will download the file and THEN ask you where you want to put it.
2. It will download the file and not tell you where it put it.

If #1 happens:

1. A window will appear asking you where you want to put the file on your machine. Click on the button that says Desktop.
2. Click Save.
3. Now skip ahead to the section beginning with Installing the Dramatica Pro Demo

If #2 happens you will have to find the file on your machine. The file will be called dramatica40demo.hqx. Try searching under this name for the file. If you do not know how to find files on your machine, please refer to your Macintosh help. When you find it, please go on to the next section.

Installing the Demo

Now you're ready to install the Dramatica Pro demo!

1. Find the dramatica40demo.hqx program on your machine. If you cannot, please refer to your Macintosh help.
2. Double-click on the file.
3. It will extract the demo file called Dramatica Demo Installer. If the file does not extract, please refer to the Macintosh downloading instructions page
4. Double-click on the Dramatica Demo Installer.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the program.

When it is done installing, you're ready to run! The program will be installed on your machine in a folder called Dramatica Demo. Open the folder and double-click on the Dramatica Pro Demo program icon to start!
