An
overview of the program
How
to Make Your Movie: An Interactive Film School
is a source of basic knowledge and hands-on
experience for everyone who wants to learn
the filmmaker's craft. We've created the environment
of an actual film school that's closed for
the summer, allowing the user unlimited access
to the entire building, including nooks and
crannies that hold the most useful secrets
of filmmaking.
There
are two ways to explore the Interactive Film
School: you can travel through the whole building
and all the materials, step by step, room
by room, as in a real film school. Or you
can use the Shortcuts menu, a blueprint with
direct access to the room and specific information
you're looking for. Either way, on all four
floors you'll find distinct rooms dedicated
to the different stages of the filmmaking
process.
The
second floor has five rooms: the Film Grammar
Room allows hands-on experience in the basics
of filmmaking; the Festival Room has information
on festivals all over the world; the Equipment
Room features an interactive Lighting Studio
and a light metering exercise, the Film History
Room and Library are full of books and resources;
and of course there's the Restroom in case
you need it.
The
Third floor is completely dedicated to the
production of a short film. You can become
a part of the whole filmmaking process starting
in the Research Room and going on to the Script
Room where you'll find an old scriptwriting
computer full of last year's trials and errors.
Then you can move to the Pre-production Room
which will prepare you to make your film.
After
you've shot your movie, go from the Production
Room to the Post-Production Room for editing
and sound mixing.
In
each of the five production rooms, you'll
hear from leading professional filmmakers
and educators at NYU, UCLA and other well-known
film schools as they share their understanding
of the art and the craft of filmmaking.
On
the fourth floor is the Screening room where
you can watch last year's class film in its
entirety. And if you were a good student,
print your own Film School diploma and enjoy
a bottle of champagne.
How
to Make Your Movie: An Interactive Film School
is a 3-CD-ROM set with a Production Notebook.
