Answer:When you
can't find a file that you saved, you can try
a couple things:
First Thing to Try
From within Power Structure, go to the File
Menu and see if the File you are looking
for is listed at the bottom of the Menu. If
it is, then select it and then choose Save
As... and save it in a subdirectory that
you can find it again.
If that doesn't work
Click on your Start Button
and choose Find...
then Files or Folders.
In the menu that appears, next to Named:
type in your file name or *.PSF
(which will find ALL Power Structure Files).
Next to Look In:
type c: and make
sure that the option Include
Subdirectories is checked. Now click
Find Now.
Q.
What are these BKF and PST files that keep appearing?
Answer : Files with the BKF
and PST extensions
are the two types of back-ups that Power Structure
creates to ensure you don't lose any work.
Files with the PST Extension
Are Timed Backup Files
which are automatically created every five minutes
or so to protect against work loss in the event
of a power failure or system lock-up or the
like. PST stands
for Power Structure
Timed Backup.
Files with the BKF Extension
Are Previous Version
Backup Files which are automatically
created whenever you save a file and there is
an existing file with the same name. This existing
file is given the extension BKF
so that if you sudddenly realize you overwrote
a file you wanted, you can reload the BKF file
and you won't have lost anything. BKF
stands simply for BacKup
File.
Q. I just saved a file and
realized I overwrote one I wanted to keep!
Answer : Fear not, as whenever Power Structure
saves a file and there is an existing file with
the same name the existing file is given the extension
BKF so that if you sudddenly realize you overwrote
a file you wanted, you can reload the BKF
file and you won't have lost anything. BKF
stands simply for BacKup
File.
To Load this BKF File
From within Power Structure, simply go to the
File menu, select
Open and then in
the Open Menu, next to Files
of Type change it from Power
Structure Files to Backup
Structure Files and open the file in
question.
Now, immediately go to the File
menu, choose Save As...
and give this file a new name!
Q. My computer crashed and
I lost the work I was doing!
Answer : Power Structure automatically saves
a timed backup file every five minutes or so,
so the likelihood is that you haven't lost much
if anything.
To Retrieve this Timed
Backup File
From within Power Structure, simply go to the
File menu, select
Open and then in
the Open Menu, next to Files
of Type change it from Power
Structure Files to Timed
Backup Files and open the file in question.
It will either have the same name as your project,
but with the extension PST
or, if you haven't named your project, it will
be NONAME + a Number with the extension PST.
Now, immediately go to the File
menu, choose Save As...
and give this file a new name!
Q. How can I group or categorize
my Plot Points or Subplots?
Answer : Power Structure gives you the ability
to group Plot Points into up to ten different
categories, with each category having a unique
color, allowing you to visually
track subplots, types of scenes (action,
love story, flashbacks, ect.) or anything else
you wish to track.
To set the color/category for any Plot Point,
simply right-click
on the Plot Point that you wish to categorize.
In most cases the category menu will pop-up
directly, in some cases you will need to select
Set Card Category Color
from the pop-up menu that appears.
If the category that you want is not already
defined, simply click on any UNDEFINED CATEGORY
item and it will then allow you to set its name
and color.
Q. How can I change the
name and/or color of a category?
Answer : Changing the name and/or color of
a Category is extremely easy.
If you are in Index Card
View, then simply click on the category
button to the left of the category whose name
or color you wish to change and select a new
name and/or color from the pop-up boxes that
appear.
If you are NOT in Index
Card View, then simply simply right-click
on the Plot Point that you wish to categorize.
In most cases the category menu will pop-up
directly, in some cases you will need to select
Set Card Category Color from the pop-up menu
that appears.
In either case, once the Category Menu has
appeared, press and hold down the CONTROL key
and click on the item whose name/color you wish
to change. Editing windows will appear, at which
point you can release the CONTROL key and make
any changes you desire.
